Is Your Birth Control Pill Effective in Controlling Pregnancy?

There are different types of birth control methods such as oral contraceptives or birth control pills, spermicides, condoms, sterilization, and intra uterine devices. However, one of the most commonly used methods to prevent unwanted pregnancies is the birth control pill. These pills are to be consumed orally and they are available in a pack of 21 or 28 pills. They can also be consumed by women who are breast feeding.

The birth control pill is a synthetic form of progesterone and estrogen. If the estrogen levels are high in the body, the ovaries do not release the eggs and hence, no fertilization takes place. The pills have an efficiency of 99.7 percent and are said to be very effective in preventing pregnancy.

These pills have to be taken at the same time every day till the entire pack is over. In case one forgets to take the pill one day, it should be taken as soon as one remembers and just one pill should be taken. They are very easily available, can be purchased without prescription. In addition, they are not very expensive.

However, there are many different brands of pills that are available and it is advisable to consult your doctor before you start using them. These effects of pills are very quickly reversible and hence, when you wish to get pregnant, all you need to do is stop taking them.

Though these birth control pills are very effective in preventing pregnancy, same can not be said for sexually transmitted diseases. They do not offer any protect against STDs and STIs.
